This is a quick post just to show you the before and after of this cute buffet. This was the second time used what is becoming my new favorite black paint, Valspar Furniture Paint.
In my area this paint is only available at Lowes, and they have to mix it, since there is no black furniture paint available straight from the shelf. I found out that they use the color “new black”, which actually looks a very dark gray when it is wet, but it dries to a beautiful satin black.
Here were the steps to paint this cutie:
- Removed drawers and shelves
- Light sanded the entire piece
- Fixed scratches and dents with hard wood filler. I like this one
- Cleaned with TSP diluted in water
- Primed with Rust-oleum black primer spray
- Spray painted 3 coats of Valspar Furniture Paint new black. This is the paint sprayer I use
- Distressed the edges of the piece using a 120-grit sandpaper
The part I love the most about this paint… No sealer needed.
And here are the pictures. Don’t you love the simplicity and elegance of a black piece?
Thanks for reading!
Love,
Patricia.

Thanks for following! Yes, those are my pictures. If they’re not, like the horse photos, I’ll say so. I love your refurbishing of furniture. Your pieces are elegant. I’ve got some projects like that to do once I get back to speed.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Another gorgeous piece well done! I don’t envy having to paint those spindles though! Patience is not one of my gifts 😉 I hope you have an amazing week!

Thanks Terry! Yes, spindles are a pain if you are using a brush, but it takes just a minute with a paint sprayer. You should try!

You know, I don’t own one black piece of furniture, I’m more on the white and lighter colour side, but I have to admit that this buffet looks stunning and just beautiful in black! I love how this turned out and could definitely imagine it in my home! Thank you so much for sharing at Sweet Inspiration #4! Have a lovely weekend!

Thanks! Same here. I like light spaces and most of my furniture is light too, but black has been growing on me.
Enjoy your weekend!
